Hello, I’m Jason Adams, the founder of New Roads Therapy and a Licensed Professional Counselor & Mental Health Service Provider (LPC-MHSP Tn License # 2860) with over 18 years of experience. I have had the honor of supporting many individuals (ages 8 or 9 to close to 80), couples (all stages and types of relationships), and families throughout some of the most devastating times of their lives. It has been, and is, a privilege to spend time with people in such vulnerable and fragile places. My life has been gifted with such inspiration to be able spend time with such courage and resilience.
My “style” as a therapist is collaborative, curious, supportive, and open, but I will also challenge you to grow and face your fears. In our time together, we would use the alive space of the room and the present moment as a teacher. We would refer to the past, but only as an invitation; only in an effort to give us permission to explore your present experience more fully.
All therapy is individual in the sense that our individual experiences are the subject, but we are all facing universal/perennial problems. These universal human problems will ultimately weave their way into our time together. As a therapist, I integrate various therapeutic modalities including Emotional Focused Therapy for individuals and couples, Mindfulness-Based CBT, DBT, ACT, and somatic modalities such as somatic experiencing, etc. But we will also refer to timeless philosophical ideas from all over the world to address these perennial human struggles.
In a session, I don’t just sit there and reflect back what people are saying ; I offer practical guidance and pragmatic tools aimed to help us identify and move toward goals. I find that a combination of seeking deeper answers to the reasons why we suffer , and utilizing down-to-earth daily tools to be effective in cultivating real change.
My passion for helping others drives everything I do in life. I am a deeply sensitive human being, and without knowing my self/my inner life, that sensitivity was almost too much to handle. My own history of trauma, feelings of isolation, layers and layers of fear and suffering forced me to confront what I had been running from my entire life. I was forced to finally say, “I’m not okay, and I need help”. I am eternally grateful for the clarity that came to my heart and mind; a clarity which began to clear away years of denial, fears, shame, self-hate.
Our suffering holds immense possibility for transformation and I have had the fortune of having powerful and wise mentors on my own healing journey. I would be honored to walk beside you as you work to step more fully into your life.
Welcome, and let’s embark on this journey together.
Much Love,
Jason
